Dia De Los Muertos- Sugar Skull Face Painting Designs
The Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions and by people of Mexican ancestary living in other places especially here in New Mexico. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family members who have passed and help support their spiritual journey.
Around Fall time Albuquerque New Mexico hosts a parade to honor the people that have passed. Many people here in NM dress up in gorgeous colorful costumes and have their faces painted with beautiful skull designs to celebrate the dead. These face paintings are referred to as Sugar Skulls or Calveras. This Mexican tradition is not only celebrated here but all over the world. With its high growing popularity especially with the movie Coco, sugar skull designs have become a fun, colorful and intricate way to not only express yourself but to honor loved ones passed.
Many of our clients especially adults are always looking for a fun idea for an adult themed party, that allows them to get in on the face painting action! Dia De Los Muertos is a great adult party theme that definitely gives the WOW factor!
Below are some of my favorite Sugar Skull Designs that we have painted for Dia de Los Mueros Parties and other special events.
